Project Description
Recently a customer came to us with an assembly need. The customer needed a machine to insert a very long pipe joint into another very long pipe joint using a tremendous amount of force. At the time, the customer was using a hydraulic ram to make the fit; but this process was taking multiple operators a full day to complete and parts were being damaged in the process. Xilix Systems designed a 32 meter machine bed, and attached a rack and pinion drive system capable of providing up to 20,000 continuous pounds of linear force. The system was built with six self-centering steady rests to support the pipes, and 25” chucks on either end to center the parts. Now a single operator can assemble a part in less than 5 minutes simply by operating a joystick. We’re also able to provide feedback to the operator such as exact real-time position and output force of the machine.
